In this video Michael introduces us to a wonderful world of Australian Arts & Crafts antiques with this beautiful sideboard.
Australia Solid Oak Arts & Crafts Sideboard
"Here we have a very, very nice Australian solid oak Arts & Crafts sideboard in the Arts & Crafts style. This particular sideboard is very strong in the Arts & Crafts influence. You can see the lovely handmade copper panels that have been hammered to show the skill of the craftsman and the handmaking of the piece.
The lovely styling of the timber, the lovely little drop bits here, which are reminiscent of Archibald Knox and Christopher Dresser design... You've also got the lovely, handmade copper straps, handles. These are wonderful examples of Arts & Crafts with the lovely hammering once again and just show you the handmade-ness of the piece.
Here on the side straps, you also have a tiny bit of Art Nouveau influence just starting to creep in, just a tiny bit of organic design. This sideboard was made in Australia about 1910, like I said, out of wonderful solid oak.
You can see the lovely dovetails on the side of the drawer there, which are really, really lovely handmade dovetails, and the overall classic design of the piece, which is wonderful. A lovely clean original piece of Australian furniture in wonderful original condition."
