“Friends” Lady With Greyhounds Statue by Demétre Haralamb Chiparus The late Demétre Haralamb Chiparus is considered one of the most important sculptors of the Art Deco era. It stands 46cm (or 18.12 inches) tall and the pure black marble base on which the figures stand on is 67.5cm (or 26.58 inches) wide. This particular example is very desirable for the delicate use of spelter for the greyhounds and the woman’s body, while her face and hands are ivorine; A material that mimics the beautiful pale white texture of ivory, which contrasts perfectly against the cold painted spelter.     The level of craftsmanship is shown in how natural the scene looks, while still adhering to the timeless and distinctive Art Deco style.
